From January 1, 2022, it will be mandatory to have liability insurance in ski resorts in Italy and South Tyrol. Anyone who is on the slopes without valid insurance will face the revocation of their ski pass and a fine of €150.

Our ski liability insurance meets all the requirements that apply in Italian ski resorts.

Why is ski liability insurance useful?

Not paying attention or taking a turn too fast - a skiing accident can happen quickly. If another person is harmed or injured, the costs are covered by a ski liability insurance. These can be costs for damage to property as well as treatment costs or claims for compensation for pain and suffering. With ski liability insurance, you are covered against the financial consequences of the costs incurred by a third party.

Important: Accident insurance only supports you in the event of a skiing accident. In the event of a collision caused by you with another person, accident insurance does not cover the costs incurred.

What else needs to be considered during a skiing vacation in Italy?

  • Entry regulations in the country: Here it is recommended to visit the site of the Foreign Office, as this is always kept up to date. Click here to go to the site.

  • Promille limit on the slopes: In Italy, a blood alcohol limit of 0.5 per mille applies to skiers and snowboarders. However, if this value is exceeded, you can be fined between 250 and 1,000 euros. From 0.8 per mille or higher, it is considered a criminal offense and can be sanctioned accordingly. Insurance coverage can also be forfeited if the blood alcohol level is too high. It is therefore always recommended not to drink alcohol before skiing or snowboarding to avoid the risk of accidents and fines.

  • Compulsory helmet use in Italy: As of January 1, 2022, Italy has extended compulsory helmet use for all skiers, snowboarders and sledders up to the age of 18. It is also important to make sure that the helmet has a CE mark, which indicates that it complies with the applicable EU directives and is safe.
