International health insurance for holidays abroad

With our international health insurance, you are comprehensively covered when travelling abroad. For a dream holiday, free from all worries!

Why is additional protection with health insurance abroad useful?

According to statistics, every tenth traveller falls ill on holiday. The statutory health insurance companies do not cover all costs for medical treatment and medication within the EU. There are also cases in which the treating doctor does not recognise the European Health Insurance Card and demands a private fee from you. In such cases, your statutory health insurance at home will only reimburse you the respective contract rate of your travel country. If you need to be repatriated from your country of travel for medical reasons, you will have to bear the entire costs yourself, even if you have private health insurance.

We therefore strongly recommend that you take out international health insurance before travelling abroad. Preferably an annual international health insurance!

Advantages and disadvantages of single and annual insurance:

Individual foreign health insurance:

Benefits:

  • Flexibility: single international health insurance gives you the flexibility to set coverage for a specific period of time that suits your individual travel plans.
  • Cost control: you only pay for the period of time you need the coverage, which may be more cost-effective if you travel abroad infrequently.
  • Specific needs: You can customize coverage to meet your specific needs, such as trip length, destination and desired benefits.

Disadvantages:

  • Effort: You have to purchase a new insurance policy for every single trip, which takes time and effort.
  • Forgetfulness: there is a possibility that you may forget to purchase insurance for a specific trip, which could result in you traveling without adequate coverage.
  • Possibly more expensive: If you travel abroad regularly, taking out several individual insurance policies may be more expensive in the long run than one annual policy.

Annual international health insurance:

Advantages:

  • Continuous protection: with annual international health insurance, you are protected continuously, for all trips abroad during the insurance period, without having to purchase new insurance each time.
  • Cost savings: if you travel abroad regularly, annual insurance can be less expensive than purchasing multiple individual policies.
  • Convenience: You don't have to worry about buying insurance before each trip because you already have continuous coverage.

Disadvantages:

  • Higher cost: If you travel abroad infrequently, the cost of annual international health insurance could be higher compared to individual insurance.
  • Limitations: Depending on the policy, annual policies may have certain restrictions, such as limits on how long you can travel per trip or specific country exclusions.
  • Contract commitment: You are bound to the contract for the entire insurance period and cannot flexibly fall back on other insurance options if your travel plans change.

Why health insurance abroad makes sense:

On the road with the scooter in Asia

Riding a scooter in Asia is very popular. However, this is often associated with certain challenges. Opaque traffic rules, poor road conditions and the scooter has usually seen better days! These factors increase the risk of a traffic accident. Due to the high temperatures, people also do without thick clothes. In the event of a fall, this quickly causes abrasions or worse. To avoid the dangers of infection, or to treat worse injuries, it is advisable to see a doctor. With the international health insurance you will not incur unexpected costs, as medical outpatient treatment including X-ray diagnostics are included in the insurance benefits.

Walking abroad

Walking is one of the most popular travel activities. Whether it's an easy hike to a viewpoint or a challenging tracking trail into nature or the mountains. What they all have in common is that you are venturing into unknown territory. No matter how well you inform yourself in advance, the trails are not always signposted as you know Germany (or in a language you can't read). The same applies to the security of the paths, especially in remote areas, the maintenance is often neglected. Due to the unfamiliar environment and thus increased required concentration, the probability of an accident increases. If this undesirable case should occur, it can become quite problematic. There may be a doctor in the next village, but the necessary tools for treatment are in the far away hospital. Transportation can be immensely costly, so it makes sense to take out an overseas health insurance policy that includes the cost of ambulance transportation for inpatient treatment to the nearest suitable hospital and back to your accommodation.

Unexpected dental visit

A subject that is thought about far too rarely, but happens more often than you think. Seductive scents or recommended delicacies typical of the country, make you try dishes that sometimes you did not even know existed. How should one know then also, how one eats it or which one can eat everything of it? If you then bite into something hard, a filling can come off. Some fruits are also so acidic that after eating them, the gums hurt. We all know how expensive dental visits can get. So that you do not have to pay for it, play it safe and take out an international health insurance.

Is the international health insurance available as an annual insurance?

More information

How do I get information about doctors at the resort?

The emergency call service provides information about medical care options and designates a German or English speaking physician.
