• Trip interruption insurance covers the costs that may arise in the event of trip interruption.
• It is already included in the specified tariff for one-off trips.
• It can be booked as additional cover for annual trip cancellation insurance.
• Trip interruption insurance is only valid for trips up to a maximum duration of 180 days.
• For trips lasting longer than 180 days, our tariff only includes travel cancellation insurance.

We recommend that you take out cancellation insurance on the day you book your trip, at the latest within the following three days.

Cancellation costs depend on how quickly the trip is canceled. The closer the cancellation date is to the planned start of the trip, the higher the costs - in extreme cases up to 100% of the travel price (taking into account a possible deductible).

Can travel cancellation insurance cover these costs?
Yes. An insurance policy taken out in good time will reimburse the contractually agreed cancellation costs if the trip has to be canceled for one of the insured reasons.

No deductibility for private trips!
Insurance for private trips - including travel cancellation insurance - is generally not deductible according to the law.

Deductibility for business trips and business travel
Travel insurance taken out for business trips and business travel for professional reasons can be deducted as a business expense under incidental travel expenses.

The insurance does not cover

• Fees incurred in the procurement of foreign currency
• Visa refusal: if the trip cannot be undertaken due to a tourist visa not being issued
• Failure to reach the flight due to a delayed shuttle bus (additional costs for rebooking)
• Dangers of war, civil war or war-like events
• Unexpected vaccination intolerance of a relative, if thisrelative is not also insured
• Pregnancy: If the mother of the underage insured person is not insured
• Damage to property: If the damage is not significant in relation to the economic situation or assets of the injured party
• Repetition of examinations: If these do not have to be repeated in order to obtain an extension of school attendance/graduation. If the trip was booked after the date of the failed examination. An early examination is also not insured
• If the trip is not taken due to the extension of a stay at a health resort
• If a) the mental illness already existed before the start of the trip and b) the treatment was not carried out by a specialist doctor
• a purely positive corona test (without symptoms)
• Administrative costs such as preparatory meetings held beforehand are not included in the travel price
• Rebooking costs due to a later arrival (flight rebooking, hotel rebooking, etc.)
• Non-promotion of a student if it is not a school or class trip

As a rule, there is no waiting period for travel cancellation insurance, as the insurance cover takes effect immediately after the contract has been concluded and the premium has been paid. However, some providers may stipulate certain conditions if the insurance is taken out within a few days of booking.

Travel cancellation insurance can be taken out with or without a deductible:
What does deductible or excess mean?

• If travel cancellation insurance is taken out without a deductible, the insurance will cover the full cancellation costs.
  
• If the policy is taken out with a deductible, the relevant tariff regulates the insured person's own contribution to the cancellation costs (20% deductible, minimum 25 euros). In other words, the amount that must be paid by the insured person in the event of a claim. Cancellation costs refer to the part of the travel costs already paid which the tour operator does not reimburse in the event of cancellation.

Travel cancellation insurance ends with the start of the trip. After that, it no longer covers any further costs, even if the trip is canceled prematurely.

No, travel cancellation insurance only covers the costs if the trip is canceled before the start of the trip. For financial losses due to premature trip interruption, you also need trip interruption insurance.

The combination of travel cancellation insurance and travel interruption insurance offers comprehensive protection. While travel cancellation insurance takes effect before the start of the trip, travel interruption insurance provides protection if the trip has to be terminated prematurely after the start. This combination is already integrated in many tariffs or can be booked as an option.

Note: Life partners or more distant relatives are often referred to as family members. However, according to the insurance conditions, these are also not included in the above-mentioned group of persons, including uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces.

Yes, but it depends on who exactly is insured. In the event of a claim, such as death, serious accident or unexpected serious illness, the insured person and their close relatives are covered. If the trip is booked for two people, the second named person is also insured.

However, if the insurance was taken out as part of a group booking (e.g. with friends or for a club trip) and one person falls ill, then as a rule only the costs for the sick person who is unable to travel are covered. It is therefore important to understand exactly who is covered by the insurance.

In this case, 2 total travel prices must be specified:
The total travel price for all participants up to the age of 64 and the total travel price for all participants aged 65 and over. Please ensure that the number of participants in the respective age group is stated correctly.

Cruises are not covered in our normal tariff, but they can be insured in a specially developed tariff.

The travel cancellation and trip interruption insurance cover only applies to hikes, expeditions or ascents up to a maximum altitude of 4,500 meters. The insurance cover no longer applies to higher ascents.

In the case of travel cancellation insurance with an excess, the insured person bears part of the cancellation costs (e.g. 20% of the cancellation costs or at least €25). This reduces the premium, but in the event of a claim, the specified excess must be paid.

Travel cancellation insurance cannot be canceled or revoked. The reason for this is that the insurance comes into force immediately upon conclusion of the contract. Travel cancellation insurance cover ends with the start of the trip. The insurance cannot be revoked even if it can be proven that the entire trip will not take place. It covers the financial consequences if you are unable to go on a planned trip. The insurance period therefore relates to the period before the trip. Upon receipt of the insurance policy, the insurer's part of the contract (assumption of risk) is deemed to have been fulfilled immediately. Accordingly, the right of withdrawal does not apply. Yes, you can take out travel cancellation insurance for a trip that you have not booked yourself if you have received the trip as a gift or transfer from another person. In this case, you must state the travel costs and travel dates of the original booking in order to take out the insurance. The travel cancellation insurance then applies to the insured person taking the trip and not to the person who booked the trip.

In the event of a claim, we would require the original cancellation invoice(s), a copy of the booking confirmation(s) and, in the event of illness, the original medical certificate with diagnosis, your insurance number and bank details for the purpose of reimbursement. Insured risks are, for example, a serious accidental injury/acute illness. Please note that a mere positive corona test does not constitute an illness.

The following are not insured events: quarantine, teacher absence, travel warning, travel ban.

As a rule, travel cancellation insurance does not automatically apply in the event of separation. However, the exact conditions may vary depending on the insurance provider and contract. In many cases, only certain reasons listed in the contract for canceling a trip are covered, such as illness, accident or death.

For example, if the trip was booked for a joint vacation with your partner and you break up, this may not be an insured reason for cancellation.

Whether you need a medical certificate to make a claim on your travel cancellation insurance depends on the terms and conditions of your insurance policy. As a rule, a medical certificate is required if you wish to cancel your trip due to illness or an accident. The certificate serves as proof for the insurance company that you are unable to travel for health reasons.
