Liability insurance for tour operators covers the following events:

Tour operator liability insurance is not required by law, but is strongly recommended.

However, there is a legal obligation to take out insolvency insurance(§ 651r BGB) - i.e. insurance for customer monies in the event that the tour operator becomes insolvent. This obligation is usually fulfilled by means of a travel insurance certificate.

Liability insurance, on the other hand, is voluntary, but protects the tour operator against high claims for damages, for example in the event of personal injury, property damage or financial loss as a result of organizational or information errors.
