An insurance broker not only offers specialist knowledge and advice on the selection of suitable travel insurance, but also supports you in the event of a claim. This is particularly important when it comes to health insurance abroad, as different conditions often apply here than with regular insurance. The broker always works in the interests of the customer and not the insurance company. This support usually takes place over a longer period of time, often even beyond the year.

In this way, tailor-made solutions can be offered that cover your specific travel needs, regardless of whether you are only traveling for a few days or several months. By working with different insurance companies, the broker can offer a wide range of options and recommend the best possible travel insurance for you.

If an illness or accident occurs during a trip, international travel health insurance reimburses the costs of medical treatment incurred abroad. Medical treatment includes medically necessary

• outpatient medical treatment including X-ray diagnostics
• pregnancy treatments, deliveries in the case of premature births, treatments for miscarriage and abortion
• pain-relieving conservative dental treatment including fillings and repairs
• medically prescribed medication and dressings
• medically prescribed radiation, light and other physical treatments
• medically prescribed aids
• operations that cannot be postponed
• inpatient treatment that cannot be postponed
• Additional costs for return transportation to the nearest suitable hospital at the insured person's place of residence
• Costs for patient transportation for inpatient treatment to the nearest suitable hospital and back to the accommodation
• Repatriation costs in the event of death or funeral costs

We cover 100% of the costs for outpatient and inpatient treatment, medically prescribed medication and operations. In an emergency, we also organize and pay for medically necessary repatriation to your home country. Dental treatment and repatriation in the event of death are also included - for comprehensive, worry-free cover. The benefits vary depending on the tariff, but are defined in the insurance conditions.

Only to a limited extent: In the EU, partly in countries with social security agreements. Statutory insurance is not sufficient for stays outside Europe or for longer than several months.

Normal travel health insurance is often only valid for up to 56 days. Long-term health insurance is specially designed for stays of several months to years and offers correspondingly extended benefits and longer terms.

Foreign travel health insurance reimburses the additional costs for return transportation to the nearest suitable hospital at the insured person's place of residence. Reimbursement will only be made if the return transportation is medically advisable and justifiable.

Furthermore, the costs for an accompanying person and for a necessary medical escort are also covered. The prerequisite for this is that this is medically necessary, ordered by the authorities or prescribed by the transport company.

The following documents must be submitted:

• Original receipts with the name, description of the illness and the service provided
• Prescriptions with doctor's invoice and invoices for remedies and aids
• Medical certificate confirming the necessity of return transportation
• Official death certificate or medical certificate stating the cause of death
• Further evidence and receipts

The international health insurance will pay the costs within 2 weeks at the latest. (Provided that the proof of insurance and premium payment is available and the obligation to pay and the amount of compensation have been determined)

The premium must be paid immediately upon receipt of the insurance policy and the premium invoice. In the event of late payment, insurance cover will only commence from this point in time.

Unfortunately not - the following applies to all providers: The insurance must be taken out in Germany before the start of the trip. It is not possible to take out insurance from abroad at a later date. So it's best to think about it in good time before you leave, then you'll be fully covered from the outset.

In many cases, you can extend your long-term international health insurance during your stay as long as the maximum insurance period is not exceeded (e.g. 1 year with basic providers, up to 5 years with specialized tariffs). Some insurers also allow an adjustment or change to a more comprehensive tariff. It is important that you apply for an extension in good time before the existing policy expires, as subsequent extensions are often not possible.
